Summer in Japan has many interesting festival where you can enjoy various style and culture in each region.

In Tohoku region, there are many festivals that you can enjoy the culture with local people.   

Sansa Odori is one of the most famous 5 summer festivals in Tohoku region.

Over 10000 taiko drummers and dancers parade around the Morioka City of Iwate prefecture. 

The origin of this festival come from the story of Iwate prefecture where the God Mitsuishi made demon a pledge using the hand print of demon on the rock to never harm people again.

So, the name Iwate come from Iwa (rock) and te (hand) from this story.

In addition to the pledge, the people also having a parade to celebrate for the God by dancing around the pledged rock which is the origin of Sansa Odori Festival.   

There are a lots of interesting things to see in this festival. You can enjoy big parade of Sansa Odori dancers and Sansa Taiko group.

In addition, there are traditional special performances from different districts that have unique styles.
