The Malaysia Halal Expo was held for three days in Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, featuring more than 300 booths exhibiting goods from food and beverages to pharmaceuticals and logistics. The expo is a continuity of the Halal category of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), signed on November 26th of 2018 by Malaysia’s Minister of Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof, and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Hiroshige Seko. The expo achieved great success during the three days of the event, reaching 32 million US dollars in sales, more than double the 12 million dollar target. Malaysia Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) made great steps to penetrate the Japanese market in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. The Minister of Entrepreneur Development of Malaysia Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan bin Md Yusof even set a target extending beyond the Olympics. The event gave a vital opportunity for Malaysian SMEs to exhibit their signature halal products and halal services to the Japanese market and grab an early share of the halal market for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games.
To show the full appreciation towards SMEs of Malaysia, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia Dr. Makio Miyagawa participated in the opening ceremony of Malaysia Halal Expo 2019. In his speech, the ambassador welcomed Malaysian SMEs and companies to introduce their halal products to Japan. There were 16 buyers from Japan participating in this expo.
