Okinawa: The Southernmost Prefecture in Japan

Have you ever heard of Okinawa? It is the Southernmost prefecture of Japan. Okinawa consist of a chain of Islands stretches over a thousand Kilometers. Okinawa is widely known for its beautiful beaches, abundant marine life, and rich history of the Ryukyu Kingdom; making it famous as a tourist destination for Japanese and people from all around the globe. The economy of Okinawa mainly supported by its tourism and trade industry. The Okinawan culture is really unique and can be easily distinguished from another part of Japan. The famous book of “Ikigai” also discussing the serenity lifestyle of the Okinawan.

Living as Muslim in Okinawa could be a little bit challenging sometimes. But the Okinawan people are really helpful and many of them are speaking English. Right now there are more than 400 Moslem from all over the world living in Okinawa. They have a Mushalla built-in 2014 to accommodate the needs of the Moslem in Okinawa. The Mushalla located just next to Ryukyu University and can be accessed in 45 minutes by city bus from the center of Naha city. The Mushalla also accommodates the needs of Halal products by having a market near the complex.

The dream of Having the First Masjid in Okinawa

Now it becomes hard for the Mushalla to meet the need of the growing number of the Moslem community in Okinawa. It has been their dream to build the first Masjid in Okinawa. Right now they are opening donation to realize this dream. Right now, the remaining money to be collected is 18 Million Japanese Yen.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ ‏ “‏ مَنْ بَنَى مَسْجِدًا لِلَّهِ كَمَفْحَصِ قَطَاةٍ أَوْ أَصْغَرَ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ ‏

The Messenger of Allah SWT said: “Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah SWT, like a sparrow’s nest for Allah or even smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.
