Assalamualaikum

My name is Wendi Cahya Setiadi, I am from Bandung, Indonesia. Almost one year I have lived in Sendai. I would like to share my first experience about celebrating Indonesia independence day in Sendai, Japan.

The celebration held on Saturday, August 18, 2018, in Tohoku University International House by Indonesian students association in Sendai (PPI Sendai).

Happy faces can be seen from the participants when they played traditional games from Indonesia.

This party started from 09.00 – 16.00 JST. In the morning, we played the  crackers – eating game (Lomba Makan Kerupuk), and then we continued to play another game which was inserting the pencil into the bottle.

Indonesian people enjoyed the games (Lomba memasukan pensil ke dalam botol)

After that, We dance poco-poco dance together . Poco – poco Dance is the most popular traditional dance from Indonesia, especially in Java Island.

We all enjoyed the games and halal foods. Various kinds of Indonesian foods are served, like yellow rice, satay, ayam goreng, and many more.

After that, we played Gobak Sodor. One team will guard the line and must catch the opposing player while the other team will try to run through the line without getting caught.

A portrait of happiness from the participants who came

Finally, this party goes well. I want to say thank you for all the participant, comitte and also Japan Halal TV which give me chance to share my experienced. I wish this event can strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and Japan. Merdeka !!
