Beautiful Gorge in Iwate Prefecture
Geibikei (猊鼻渓) in Hiraizumi, Iwate prefecture is a beautiful gorge along Satetsu River surrounded by 50 meters high limestone cliff. The name “Geibi” in Japanese literally means “Lion’s nose”, represent the shape of the limestone cliff. Geibikei is one of the favorite locations to enjoy the beauty of Japanese Autumn Foliage. The red and yellow-colored leaves are in contrast with the limestone and greenish clear water, made you felt transported into a painting. The gorge located about 500 meters from JR Geibikei station.
Geibikei Boat ride
One way to enjoy the beauty of Geibikei is by hopping on a 90 minutes boat ride that goes along the river, passing through waterfalls, impressive rocks, and a limestone cave. There are a lot of koi fishes in the river, you can easily spot them through the crystal clear water. Do not forget to buy a 100 yen fish pellets at the boat station so you can feed them during the boat ride. In 40 minutes you will reach the turnaround point of the boat trip at the giant cliff called Daigeibi-gan. The boat trip then paused for about 15 minutes so you could explore the area and taking a lot of beautiful pictures there. Aside from the colorful fishes and trees, the other attraction of the boat ride is the folk song sung by the boatman and boatwoman.

On top of the beautiful scene, Geibikei is thriving to provide facilities for Moslem to let us fully enjoy the Geibikei experience. There is a praying space located just next to the boat station. They also provide halal lunch box for a group that you can order by email a week prior to your trip.
