Gyoumu chain supermarkets 業務スーパー are the best place for Muslims to go shopping for food in Japan. I have never heard about any other Japanese supermarket that provides this much varieties of Halal food. From frozen Halal chicken, frozen Halal beef, Halal spices, Halal ramen noodles, Halal sauces, and even Halal coffee !!
Also, you can find a lot of imported goods from outside Japan in Gyoumu supermarket. There are products from America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and literally from all over the world.
There is a huge variety of food products there. From vegetables, dairy products, cutlery, Japanese ingredients, snacks, sauces and literally everything !!
The prices there are also good, and sometimes the products in Gyoumu supermarket is cheaper than in other supermarkets. At the entrance, you will find the sign saying “Everyday cheap price” !!
Gyoumu means (Business) in English and the supermarket name translates to (Business supermarket). This supermarket is specialized for selling food products to restaurants and business owners because most of its products are of larger size than the regular Japanese supermarkets and that’s why the products are cheaper. For Example, you can find the 5 kg spaghetti pasta pack which is rare to find in any other Japanese supermarket. And that’s one of the reasons that it’s popular with foreigners.
Gyoumu supermarket is an eco-friendly supermarket. After buying your stuff, the shop assistant will ask you if you want to use plastic bags to pack your purchase in it. And you have to pay (2-3 Yen) for using a plastic bag. So, don’t forget to bring your reusable bags if you want to save these pennies.
After checking your purchased items at the cashier, you will pay automatically at the machine with cash or with a credit card, both are ok. They do that to save the time taken by the shop workers to search for the change in cash.
There is a lot of branches of Gyoumu supermarket all over Japan. You can search google and google maps for the one the nearest to you.
I’m sure you will enjoy shopping there.
