Tokyo Wide Pass
Transportation fee in Japan could cost you a fortune if you do not know how to work around it. One bullet train (Shinkansen) ticket could cost around 20,000 JPY (~186 USD) and one subway station away generally cost around 200 JPY (1.86 USD). But there are several transportation passes that could save your travel budget, such as Tokyo Wide Pass.
What is Tokyo Wide pass?
It is a travel pass issued by JR company all year round. The pass cost 10,000 and can be used in 3 consecutive days. You can buy the pass in several big stations around Tokyo (including Tokyo station, Shinjuku station, and Shibuya station). All you have to do is show your passport and decide when you want to start using the pass. The pass can be used for ordinary train and also book Shinkansen tickets in the usage area covered by the Tokyo Wide Pass. All foreigners, including those who stay for a long time, are eligible for this pass.
How to Use it?
Once you get your pass, you can use it as it is for an ordinary train, or you can book Shinkansen tickets at the ticket office by showing the pass to the staff. Please note that you might not be able to book a ticket if the train is fully booked. Last time, we planned our trip in the mid-April which is the busiest time for traveling in Japan due to Spring season and golden week. At times like that, we can book our tickets beforehand by using the eki-net webpage. Unfortunately, the website is only in Japanese.
